Job Overview: The QRF Driver position is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the United Nations Department of Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (UNDSS) staff, officials, and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as the driver will be responsible for transporting personnel and managing various logistical tasks. The driver must possess excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues, as well as demonstrate strong computer skills and a client-oriented approach. The position also involves clerical services, ensuring that all necessary documentation and supplies are available for the assigned vehicle. The driver will be expected to maintain a high standard of service while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities: The QRF Driver will be responsible for a variety of key functions, including:
Providing reliable and secure driving services for the transport of UNDSS officials, UN colleagues, and visitors, as well as for the delivery and collection of mail and documents.
Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities when required.
Supporting routine security patrols, escorts, and emergency response as needed.
Ensuring the proper use and maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including daily logs, fueling, servicing, and minor repairs.
Maintaining all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, such as insurance, vehicle logs, and a first aid kit.
Taking immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Liaising for visa, protocol, and customs-related matters for the country office and UNDSS staff.
Providing logistical support for operations, including maintaining a registry system and managing office supplies and inventory.
Ensuring effective mail management by registering, coding, and forwarding incoming correspondence. 1
Performing other tasks as assigned to ensure effective office functionality.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or an equivalent qualification. A valid driver's license is mandatory, and certification in auto mechanics or a related field is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have a safe driving record and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Familiarity with administrative policies and procedures, as well as experience in using Microsoft Office applications, is essential. Strong organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or an equivalent qualification. A valid driver's license is essential for the role, and any additional certification in auto mechanics or related fields would be beneficial to the candidate's application.
Experience: Candidates should have 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly in driving and office clerk roles within international organizations, United Nations agencies, embassies, or government offices. Experience in diplomatic security, security forces, or intelligence is considered an added advantage. A safe driving record and knowledge of minor vehicle repairs are also important for this position.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in the national language of the duty station. This ensures effective communication with diverse stakeholders and adherence to local protocols.
Additional Notes: The position is open to Nigerian nationals, both male and female. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation, as well as host country safety codes. Basic computer skills and the ability to travel are required, along with physical fitness.
