The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, established in 194
  • Its mission is to promote international cooperation and provide policy guidance on economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. ECOSOC plays a crucial role in coordinating the work of various UN agencies and fostering dialogue among member states. The Council is composed of 54 member states, elected by the General Assembly, and meets annually to discuss and address global challenges. In 2026, ECOSOC will celebrate its 80th anniversary, reflecting on its legacy and renewing its commitment to advancing multilateral action to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Job Overview:
The consultant will provide substantive and administrative support for all mandated and related ECOSOC meetings and events during its 2026 session. This includes preparing high-quality briefing materials, talking points, statements, and correspondence for the President’s engagements from January to July 202
  • The consultant will also manage the President’s calendar, ensuring efficient coordination of official engagements and effective communication with various stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of ECOSOC's functions and the ability to produce timely and accurate meeting minutes, outreach materials, and summary reports that highlight the President’s key activities and contributions during the session.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide substantive, administrative, and logistical support for the President’s participation in all mandated meetings and events of the 2026 ECOSOC session, ensuring effective organization of both in-person and virtual engagements.
  • Draft, review, and finalize briefing notes, talking points, statements, and correspondence for the President, ensuring all materials are accurate and reflect the integrated nature of sustainable development.
  • Collaborate with DGACM and DESA/OISC in organizing ECOSOC Bureau meetings, providing logistical support and ensuring timely delivery of documentation.
  • Support communication and outreach related to the President’s activities, ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all communications.
  • Prepare high-quality meeting minutes and summary reports, highlighting major outcomes and contributions to advancing the Council’s mandate.
  • Manage the President’s calendar of activities and coordinate logistical arrangements for meetings and events.

Required Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, business administration, economics, communications, social and political sciences, or related field. A first-level university degree with extensive relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. - A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in policy, research, coordination, economics, or development-related fields. - Outstanding drafting skills and the ability to prepare concise communication and background materials. - Experience with inter-governmental processes and the UN system, including working with the United Nations and/or affiliated entities. - Strong understanding of development issues and the interlinkages among social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as public administration, business administration, economics, communications, social and political sciences. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with extensive relevant work experience may be accepted.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in fields such as policy, research, coordination, economics, or development. Candidates should have a proven track record of working within inter-governmental processes and familiarity with the UN system.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

The assignment will be carried out on-site at UN Headquarters in New York or at the Permanent Mission of Nepal, in accordance with FWA guidelines. The expected duration of the consultancy is from February 1, 2026, to July 31, 202
