Job Posting Organization: The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC) is a United Nations entity established to advocate for the protection and well-being of children affected by armed conflict. The office was created following the 1996 report by Graça Machel, which highlighted the impact of armed conflict on children. The SRSG-CAAC engages with various UN bodies and partners to promote the rights of children in conflict situations, ensuring their protection and addressing grave violations against them. The office operates globally, focusing on strategic partnerships and advocacy to enhance the visibility of children's issues in armed conflict.
Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in overseeing and driving the development, implementation, and scaling of the Prove It Matters campaign, which aims to renew global commitment to the protection of children affected by armed conflict. This position requires a strategic thinker who can provide technical expertise to strengthen advocacy efforts, enhance visibility through storytelling, and ensure sustainability through robust partnerships. The consultant will work closely with the Chief of Strategic Partnerships and Planning, maintaining continuous consultation with OSRSG-CAAC to adapt to evolving opportunities and maximize impact. The role involves creating a comprehensive Campaign Roadmap, developing advocacy toolkits, and producing compelling storytelling outputs that highlight the experiences and protection needs of children in conflict.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's responsibilities include:
Developing a comprehensive one-year Campaign Roadmap that outlines advocacy opportunities, communication channels, and a monitoring and evaluation framework.
Submitting interim and final progress reports detailing activities, partnerships, and challenges encountered.
Producing an advocacy and communications toolkit that includes visual identity packages and targeted advocacy messages.
Designing and rolling out advocacy activations in collaboration with partners.
Developing concept notes and briefing materials for high-level advocacy events.
Producing storytelling outputs that highlight children's experiences in armed conflict.
Supporting the national implementation of the campaign in at least two conflict-affected countries.
Identifying new partnerships for collaboration and advocacy.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in social sciences, law, international relations, communications, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in advocacy related to peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, human rights, or youth engagement is required, along with at least 3 years in communications and campaign development. Experience working with the UN or similar organizations is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in human rights issues, project management, and possess excellent writing and communication skills. Familiarity with relevant software and experience in multimedia production are advantageous.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in social sciences, law, international relations, communications, or closely related disciplines is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with five additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in advocacy work related to peace and security, human rights, or youth engagement. Additionally, candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in communications and campaign development. Experience working with the UN or other international organizations is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Spanish and Arabic is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse contexts.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last for 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The position is remote, with potential travel required to various destinations as determined by the campaign's needs.
