Job Overview: The Programme Associate for Market Access will play a crucial role in supporting the World Food Programme's Country Strategic Plan (CSP) in Tanzania, which aims to enhance economic growth and food security for the population. This position is integral to achieving the objectives of Activity 5 under Strategic Outcome 3, which focuses on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers through enhanced market access, post-harvest handling, and agricultural development. The Programme Associate will work closely with various stakeholders, including local government authorities, NGOs, and private sector actors, to implement programs that create job opportunities and improve access to markets for youth and women. The role requires a proactive approach to program delivery, ensuring that interventions are effectively designed and executed to meet the needs of smallholder farmers and contribute to sustainableagricultural practices. The position will involve travel to different regions in Tanzania to oversee project implementation and ensure alignment with WFP's strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: providing technical support to implementing partners and stakeholders; designing and coordinating market-based methodologies to improve productivity and market access for smallholder farmers; troubleshooting and identifying gaps in project implementation; acting as a liaison with local partners and government institutions; contributing to the training of technical staff on project methodologies; integrating gender sensitivity into all activities; assessing and analyzing the profiles of target farmer organizations; coordinating farmer training on good agronomic practices; supporting the development of training modules on business development for agribusinesses; ensuring timely and quality delivery of project activities; and providing guidance to enhance services for farmers. The role also includes monitoring project progress, resolving operational queries, and performing any other tasks as required by the activity and strategic outcome managers.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree in disciplines such as Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or Agricultural Extension from a recognized institution. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to engage with external stakeholders, and a good understanding of food security policies and agricultural frameworks in Tanzania. The role requires proficiency in project management and the ability to design and implement effective agricultural programs that align with WFP's mission.
Educational Background: A University Degree in one or more of the following fields is required: Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or Agricultural Extension. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of agricultural systems and market dynamics, which are critical for the successful execution of the Programme Associate's responsibilities.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in a comparable position within the public service, private sector, or an international organization. Languages: Fluency in both written and oral communication in English and Swahili is mandatory for this position.
