Job Overview: The National Consultant for gender mediation and conflict prevention will play a crucial role in addressing gender issues within the context of conflict prevention and mediation. This position involves conducting a thorough conflict analysis with a specific focus on gender dynamics, identifying the unique challenges and opportunities that women face in conflict situations. The consultant will be expected to develop strategies that promote gender-sensitive approaches to conflict resolution and mediation, ensuring that women's voices are included in peace processes. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners, to foster an inclusive environment for dialogue and conflict resolution. The consultant will also be responsible for providing recommendations based on the analysis and facilitating training sessions aimed at enhancing the capacity of local actors in gender mediation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive conflict analysis with a focus on gender dynamics, identifying key issues and stakeholders.
Develop and propose gender-sensitive strategies for conflict prevention and mediation.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions for local stakeholders on gender mediation practices.
Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to ensure the integration of gender perspectives in conflict resolution initiatives.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of gender-sensitive approaches in ongoing conflict prevention efforts.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to local actors involved in mediation processes.
Engage with community leaders and organizations to promote awareness of gender issues in conflict situations.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in gender issues, conflict resolution, and mediation.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct thorough conflict analyses.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and operations, particularly in the context of gender and conflict.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Gender Studies, Conflict Resolution, International Relations, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in mediation or conflict resolution will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in gender analysis, conflict prevention, and mediation is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in conflict-affected areas, is highly desirable. Proven track record of conducting conflict analyses and developing gender-sensitive strategies is essential.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Guinea-Bissau, such as Crioulo, is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The position is for a contract duration of 4 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. This is a consultancy role, and candidates may be recruited nationally or internationally. The consultant will work full-time and is expected to submit proposals directly through the UNDP procurement portal. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's guidelines.
