Job Overview:
The Finance Associate position is a critical role within the UNHCR, primarily responsible for assisting in the processing of financial transactions and maintaining accurate financial records. The incumbent will work under the supervision of a senior finance colleague, who will provide guidance and define general work objectives. The Finance Associate will be expected to engage frequently with staff at various levels and local bank officials to exchange information and ensure compliance with UNHCR financial policies and procedures. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial operations and supporting the organization's mission by ensuring that financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. The Finance Associate will also contribute to the preparation of financial reports, budget analysis, and audits, thereby playing a vital role in the financial management of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Associate will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: maintaining financial records and monitoring systems to accurately record and reconcile expenditures, balances, payments, and other financial data; selecting and entering data from various documents while verifying accuracy; preparing recurring and special financial reports as required; advising staff members on allowances, salary advances, travel claims, and other financial matters; maintaining liaison with local bank officials to obtain information on exchange rates and banking procedures; preparing detailed cost estimates and participating in budget analysis; initiating correspondence to verify data and answer queries; ensuring that financial transactions comply with UNHCR rules; supporting risk management and decision-making processes; and performing other related duties as required to support the finance function.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high level of IT affinity, particularly with MS Office applications and PeopleSoft. Knowledge and work experience with MSRP Finance applications are desirable. A good understanding of UN/UNHCR financial rules and procedures is essential. Completion of UNHCR learning programs or specific training relevant to the finance functions is also required. The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma with three years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with two years of relevant work experience. The field of education is not specifically applicable, but certifications in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance are essential for this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience for those with a High School Diploma, or two years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in financial transaction processing, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations, preferably in an international or shared-service environment, is essential. Familiarity with financial modules of major ERP systems like Oracle or SAP is also required, along with proficiency in preparing financial reports and audit-ready documentation.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station is required if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is necessary. A minimum overall ability of B2 level in the required languages is expected.
