Job Overview:
The Technical Specialist position at FAO involves providing high-level technical support and expertise in macroeconomic modeling and forecasting as part of the Common Country Analysis (CCA) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). The role requires a deep understanding of agrifood systems and the ability to conduct economic scenario analyses that inform policy recommendations tailored to specific country contexts. The specialist will work closely with FAO regional and country offices to enhance their analytical capacity and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This position is crucial for ensuring that agrifood systems are transformed in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and resilient, aligning with FAO's strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: preparing country situation analyses and analytical deep-dives to inform FAO's contributions to CCA and UNSDCF; identifying support needs and capacity gaps of country offices; analyzing structural and emerging challenges affecting agrifood systems; conducting analytical work using quantitative, qualitative, and geospatial data; supporting the development of modeling and forecasting tools; providing technical backstopping to country offices; collaborating with FAO experts across disciplines; and performing other related duties as required. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying data sources, ensuring quality control, and contributing to FAO's broader data agenda.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (MS or equivalent, PhD is desirable) in relevant fields such as economics, agricultural economics, international trade, environmental sciences, public policy, or data sciences. They should have significant experience in policy and economic analysis of food and agricultural issues, particularly using economy-wide modeling techniques. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required for Category B candidates, while Category A candidates must have at least 10 years of experience. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a strong command of English and possess FAO core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in economics, agricultural economics, international trade, environmental sciences, public policy, data sciences, or related fields. A PhD is considered desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in the relevant areas.

Experience:
Candidates should have a substantial level of experience in policy and economic analysis, particularly in the context of food and agricultural issues. This includes experience with economy-wide modeling, such as computable general equilibrium (CGE) modeling.
