Job Overview:
The Environmental Standards Consultant position is situated within the Environmental Standards Section (ES) of the Air Transport Bureau (ATB) at ICAO. The primary focus of this role is to support the development and refinement of various tools related to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The consultant will work closely with the Chief of the Environmental Standards Section and other staff members to enhance ICAO's environmental tools, including the CORSIA CO2 Estimation and Reporting Tool (CERT), Carbon Calculator, and other related applications. The role involves conducting analytical work, providing technical assistance during seminars and workshops, and developing guidelines and manuals for ICAO tools. The consultant will also assist in the preparation of documentation, reports, and presentations related to environmental initiatives, ensuring that ICAO's environmental objectives are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and refinement of CORSIA tools, including the ICAO CORSIA CERT, ensuring that databases and calculation methodologies are maintained and updated.
  • Collaborate with ENV staff to implement the ICAO CORSIA CERT in accordance with established timelines.
  • Contribute to analytical work related to CORSIA and assist in updating the ICAO Environmental suite of tools, such as the Carbon Calculator and Environmental Benefit Tool.
  • Provide technical assistance during seminars and workshops, presenting information related to ICAO tools as needed.
  • Develop practical guidelines and manuals for the use of ICAO tools and respond to user queries regarding the CORSIA CERT.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation and presentations for meetings related to CORSIA and manage content for ICAO's environmental websites.
  • Draft responses to public inquiries regarding environmental tools and data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of the Environmental Standards Section.

Required Qualifications:
  • A first-level university degree in engineering, mathematics, science, statistics, or a related discipline is essential.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an international civil aviation environment, airport, airline, or environmental organization, with a strong background in analytical work and tool development.
  • At least two years of experience at the international level is required.
  • Experience in providing services to international meetings is essential.
  • Desirable experience includes familiarity with international environmental policies within ICAO.

Educational Background:
The position requires a first-level university degree, preferably in a field related to engineering, mathematics, science, or statistics. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of environmental standards and tools used in the aviation sector.

Experience:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of professional experience in an international civil aviation context, which includes working with airports, airlines, or environmental organizations. At least two years of this experience should be at the international level, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex global aviation issues and contribute effectively to international discussions and initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking abilities, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having a working knowledge of a second language from the organization's official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The selected consultant will be employed for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The position is classified under Band A-2, with a monthly salary range between USD $3,991 and USD $5,172, depending on qualifications and experience. This role is crucial for supporting ICAO's environmental initiatives and contributing to the global efforts in reducing the aviation industry's impact on climate change.
