Job Overview:
The intern will be part of the Buildings and Construction team within UNEP's Cities Unit, focusing on promoting sustainable buildings and construction practices. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about environmental issues and are eager to contribute to global efforts in achieving a zero-emission, efficient, and resilient buildings and construction sector. The intern will assist in various activities, including the preparation of online events, webinars, and the annual GlobalABC Assembly, while also supporting outreach efforts to engage GlobalABC members. The role requires a proactive approach to tasks and collaboration with team members to enhance the overall performance of the unit's initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the preparation of online events and webinars, managing outreach and communications, coordinating logistics, and assisting in the organization of the 2026 GlobalABC Annual Assembly. The intern will also help prepare for GlobalABC activities at COP31, coordinate the activities of GlobalABC Hubs and Working Groups, maintain and update member databases, and develop communication materials such as presentations, articles, newsletters, and website content. Additionally, the intern will prepare meeting notes and summaries for events, assist team members with various activities, and actively participate in team meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferred fields of study include Environmental Sciences, Architecture, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Urban or Environmental Policy, or related fields. While professional work experience is not required, a relevant field of study is essential. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and have the ability to draft news articles and social media posts.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or having completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic foundation in areas related to environmental issues, architecture, or engineering, which aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to the tasks they will be performing. This could include projects, research, or volunteer work in environmental fields, architecture, or urban planning that demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and environmental advocacy.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also essential, as it is another working language. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse international environment.
