Job Overview: The Junior Consultant-Media and Elections position is crucial as Bangladesh approaches its national elections, which are marked by significant political polarization and security challenges. The role is designed to support the BALLOT Project, which aims to enhance the institutional capacity of the Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC) and promote civic engagement and voter education. The consultant will be involved in project management activities, including planning, implementation, and monitoring of project interventions. This position requires a deep understanding of the media and electoral landscape in Bangladesh, as well as the ability to coordinate effectively with various stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and partner organizations. The consultant will also contribute to initiatives aimed at promoting freedom of expression and mitigating misinformation, thereby playing a vital role in ensuring credible and inclusive elections that reinforce democratic institutions and maintain stability in the country.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Supporting the planning and implementation of project activities related to media and elections.
Conducting research and analysis on media dynamics and electoral processes in Bangladesh.
Coordinating with government counterparts, donors, and partners to ensure alignment with project goals.
Assisting in the development of knowledge management strategies and identifying new initiatives and partnerships.
Contributing to reports and documentation related to project progress and outcomes.
Engaging with law enforcement authorities to promote freedom of expression initiatives.
Managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in administration or operations. A minimum of three years of professional experience in administration or operations is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in digital tools and IT applications relevant to project coordination is essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a master’s degree or its equivalent, in a relevant field such as administration or operations. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of project management and the operational aspects of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in administration or operations. This experience should ideally include work related to media, elections, or similar fields, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex environments and engage with various stakeholders effectively.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Bangla, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: The position is a consultancy role with an initial contract duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project requirements. The consultant is expected to work five days a week, totaling 40 hours per week, excluding lunch breaks. The remuneration for this position ranges from 30,000 to 40,000 BDT per month, depending on the level of experience and qualifications. Travel costs will be covered according to UN rates.
