The organization collaborates with various stakeholders, including the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), to enhance capacity building and develop strategies for climate action. Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in the development of an interactive online training module that aims to enhance understanding of regional climate modelling assessment tools and their applications in the Arab region. This position involves creating substantive content in Arabic, which will be based on methodologies and outputs from the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR). The consultant will work closely with the Economic Affairs Officer and the canvas coordinator, ensuring that the training module is informative, engaging, and tailored to the needs of the target audience. The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively utilize climate modelling tools in addressing climate change challenges in their respective contexts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's primary responsibilities include:
Developing an annotated outline for the training module that includes at least eight sections, ensuring comprehensive coverage of relevant topics related to climate change and regional climate modelling.
Drafting substantive content for the module in Arabic, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance to the target audience.
Collaborating with ESCWA staff and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on the module's content and structure.
Revising and finalizing the substantive content based on feedback received, ensuring that it meets the educational objectives of the training program.
Ensuring that the training module is interactive and engaging, incorporating various teaching methods and tools to facilitate learning.
Providing expertise on geospatial analysis and climate change issues, particularly as they pertain to the Arab region.
Meeting deadlines and maintaining communication with the project team throughout the development process.
Participating in meetings and discussions related to the project, contributing to the overall success of the training initiative.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in geography, climate change, engineering, or environmental science. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant experience in climate change and geospatial analysis is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in working with geospatial datasets, particularly in relation to regional climate modelling and impact assessments. Experience addressing climate change issues specific to Arab States is highly desirable, as it will enhance the relevance and applicability of the training module being developed.
Educational Background: A master’s degree in a relevant field such as geography, climate change, engineering, or environmental science is mandatory for this position. Candidates are required to submit a copy of their educational qualifications as part of the application process.
