The Taxonomist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and aligning the World Bank Group's knowledge taxonomies with operational priorities and user needs. This position requires engaging with both operational and non-operational stakeholders to ensure that taxonomies are comprehensive, current, and serve as the 'source of truth' across the organization. The Taxonomist will also facilitate collaboration among technical teams and operational units to harmonize and modernize semantic structures, thereby enhancing knowledge sharing and retrieval processes.

Support taxonomy governance efforts to ensure consistency, quality, and sustainability of taxonomy structures and metadata schemas. Contribute to the integration of taxonomy practices with information policies and standards, including change management processes. Adopt external trends and standards in information architecture and taxonomy design. Standardize taxonomy metrics to inform decisions on improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Technical Integration: Collaborate with operational units to align taxonomy structures with sectoral and regional priorities. Liaise with taxonomy custodians, knowledge specialists, IT teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective integration of taxonomies into digital platforms and AI tools. Provide guidance on metadata tagging and classification rules. Facilitate taxonomy working groups and communities of practice.
  • Taxonomy Design, Development, and Maintenance: Design, update, and maintain controlled vocabularies and classification systems that support enterprise information management. Analyze knowledge usage patterns to propose enhancements to existing taxonomies. Identify opportunities to automate taxonomy management processes. Support mapping between internal taxonomies and external standards. Conduct regular audits of taxonomy usage and effectiveness.
  • Capacity Building and Support: Provide training and documentation to support taxonomy adoption across WBG institutions. Respond to taxonomy-related inquiries and provide technical assistance. Promote taxonomy use as part of broader knowledge and learning activities. Participate in scientific dialogue related to discovery tools and trends.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Information Science, Library Science, Knowledge Management, Computer Science, or a related field. Additionally, 5 to 10 years of experience in taxonomy development, content strategy, content management, knowledge management, or information architecture is required, preferably within a large or international organization. Certifications such as Taxonomy certificate from the Special Libraries Association, Certified Knowledge Specialist - Taxonomy, or Certified Information Professional are advantageous. Experience:
The ideal candidate should have between 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in fields such as taxonomy development, content strategy, knowledge management, or information architecture. Experience within large or international organizations is particularly valuable, as it provides insight into the complexities of managing knowledge in diverse environments.
