Job Overview:
The Protection Mainstreaming Manager will be responsible for leading the implementation of the protection mainstreaming strategy for the Syria mission. This role is crucial in ensuring that protection principles are integrated into the delivery of assistance and services across various sectors. The manager will work to ensure that response activities effectively target the most vulnerable populations, enhance their safety and dignity, and promote and protect the rights of beneficiaries. This will be done in alignment with the 'DO NO HARM' principle, ensuring that SI's programs do not inadvertently contribute to or perpetuate discrimination, abuse, violence, neglect, or exploitation. The position requires a proactive approach to integrating protection and gender mainstreaming into all aspects of the organization's operations in Syria, particularly in the context of ongoing humanitarian challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Mainstreaming Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Developing and implementing a protection mainstreaming strategy that aligns with SI's overall mission and objectives in Syria.
  • Conducting assessments to identify the protection needs of vulnerable populations and ensuring that these needs are addressed in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation.
  • Providing training and capacity-building support to staff and partners on protection principles and gender mainstreaming.
  • Collaborating with other sectors to ensure that protection considerations are integrated into all aspects of program delivery.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of protection interventions and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Engaging with local communities and stakeholders to promote awareness of protection issues and gather feedback on SI's programs.
  • Reporting on protection-related activities and outcomes to senior management and donors.
  • Ensuring compliance with SI's policies and procedures related to protection and safeguarding.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Protection Mainstreaming Manager position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in social studies, humanitarian affairs, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 2 years in a similar position focused on protection and gender mainstreaming.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in protection mainstreaming, capacity building, and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven experience in team management and the ability to take initiative in challenging environments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in relevant fields such as social studies, humanitarian affairs, or equivalent qualifications that demonstrate a strong understanding of humanitarian principles and practices.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a solid level of experience, specifically:
  • At least 3-4 years of experience working in the humanitarian sector, with a focus on protection and gender issues.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role related to protection mainstreaming, demonstrating the ability to lead initiatives and manage teams effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international stakeholders. Proficiency in Arabic is also required, as it is essential for engaging with local communities and understanding the context in which SI operates. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
