Job Overview:
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Deputy coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Finance Coordinator by managing the accounting operations of Solidarités International on the mission. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with SI's rules and procedures regarding financial commitments and expense tracking at both the base and coordination levels. The Senior Accountant provides administrative support to various teams concerning accounting matters, centralizes accounting for different bases, verifies monthly accounting packs, and conducts systematic checks of cash advances. The role also involves preparing monthly accounting packs, liaising with the logistics department for lease payments, and ensuring the personnel database is accurate and up-to-date. The Senior Accountant is integral to maintaining the integrity of the mission's financial operations and ensuring that all accounting practices are adhered to.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant's duties include managing the mission's accounting by centralizing accounts for various bases, verifying monthly accounting packs, conducting systematic checks of cash advances, preparing monthly accounting packs, and ensuring timely payments of lease contracts. The role requires checking cash box inventories and bank reconciliations, integrating exchange rates into the accounting system, and monitoring the allocation of costs incurred by headquarters. Additionally, the Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accounting archives, verifying vouchers and supporting documents, preparing financial reports, and supervising the annual closure of accounts. The position also involves training new accounting staff, providing feedback on accounting practices, and developing new accounting policies to ensure consistency across the mission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in finance or accountancy and have a minimum of three years of experience in finance management, particularly in a similar role within an international non-governmental organization (INGO). Strong skills in financial management, accounting practices, and compliance with financial regulations are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in finance or accountancy is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for managing financial operations and understanding complex accounting principles, which are critical for the role of Senior Accountant.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in finance management and accounting, particularly in a similar role within an INGO. This experience should include a solid understanding of financial reporting, budget management, and compliance with financial regulations, as well as the ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to changing circumstances.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing skills being essential for effective communication. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the regions where SI operates, enhancing the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered on a short-term contract basis, with a duration of six months and the possibility of extension. The role is based in Damascus, Syria, and involves a full-time commitment. The monthly basic salary for this position is 1,620 USD, along with additional benefits such as a monthly medical allowance, transportation allowance, and communication allowance.
