Job Overview:
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Chief of Environment and Development Policy Section and the NRL expert. The primary function of this position is to review indoor air quality (IAQ) standards from selected countries and international organizations, identify innovative techniques for improving IAQ, and develop monitoring methods and management guidelines for indoor air pollutants. The consultant will also draft a policy brief to introduce IAQ management policies and regulations for member States. This role is crucial in addressing the significant impact of air pollution on health and ecosystems, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, where air quality is a pressing concern. The consultant will contribute to the Regional Action Programme on Air Pollution (RAPAP) and support its implementation by mobilizing investments for air quality management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties include reviewing existing IAQ standards, identifying innovative management techniques, developing monitoring methods for indoor air pollutants, and drafting policy briefs. The consultant will also be responsible for delivering a technical assistance strategy to support RAPAP's implementation, mobilizing investments, and producing IAQ management guidelines. The role requires sound knowledge of sustainable development, experience in writing formal documents, and research skills. The consultant will work independently and coordinate with multiple international organizations and governments, plan and organize international workshops, and document research reports and policy briefs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree or higher in Environment, Planning, Public Policy, Engineering, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with three years of qualifying experience may be accepted. At least three years of working experience in governmental or environmental research is required, with prior experience in the UN or a research institute being preferable. Candidates should have a good understanding of sustainable development and environmental policy issues in the Asia-Pacific region, along with proven experience in planning and coordinating international workshops or meetings.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a master's degree or higher in relevant fields such as Environment, Planning, Public Policy, or Engineering. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by three years of relevant experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of environmental issues and developing effective management strategies.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of working experience in governmental or environmental research fields. Candidates should have experience in writing formal documents and working on international environmental issues. Experience in the UN or a research institute is highly desirable, as is a proven ability to work independently and coordinate efforts among multiple organizations or governments.

Languages:
Excellent command of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language of communication within the organization and for the tasks at hand.
