Job Overview: The Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Team Leader position is a critical role within the Danish Refugee Council's humanitarian mine action program, which was launched in June 202
This program aims to address the dangers posed by explosive ordnance in Northwest and Central Zone in Tigray, Ethiopia. The EORE Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of EORE activities, ensuring that they are conducted in compliance with national mine action standards and DRC’s operational procedures. The role involves close collaboration with NTS Operators, EORE team members, and the NTS/EORE Project Manager to effectively deliver educational programs that raise awareness about the risks associated with explosive ordnance. The EORE Team Leader will also play a vital role in training team members, collecting and analyzing data, and engaging with local stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of EORE initiatives in various community settings. This position requires a proactive approach to project management and a commitment to improving community safety through education and awareness.
Duties and Responsibilities: The EORE Team Leader will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the planning and delivery of NTS activities in coordination with the NTS/EORE Project Manager; supervising the EORE team to ensure compliance with national standards; supporting the induction and training of new team members; collecting and analyzing data related to explosive ordnance-affected communities; implementing pre and post-intervention surveys to assess the impact of mine action activities; serving as the main point of contact for community representatives; establishing and maintaining a network of information sources; ensuring the quality of EORE activities through the use of DRC’s quality assurance tools; coordinating with support services for procurement needs; and documenting project successes and challenges for reporting purposes. The EORE Team Leader will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of team outputs and beneficiaries reached, as well as reporting any issues encountered during project implementation to the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the EORE Team Leader position must possess a range of qualifications, including a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in related fields. A vocational school education or higher education in a relevant discipline is considered an asset. Previous training and experience in Non-Technical Survey (NTS) and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) are essential, along with a solid understanding of International and National Mine Action Standards. Candidates should have experience in conducting surveys, data collection, and analysis, as well as sound knowledge of topography, map drawing, and basic navigation tools such as GPS and compasses. Proficiency in computer skills and effective communication abilities in both Tigrinya and English are also required. Strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team, and familiarity with local community dynamics are important attributes for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the EORE Team Leader position includes a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Additionally, candidates should possess an EORE qualification, which demonstrates their expertise in explosive ordnance risk education and related practices. This educational foundation is crucial for effectively leading EORE initiatives and ensuring compliance with established standards.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least three years of relevant work experience in fields related to explosive ordnance risk education, mine action, or humanitarian assistance.
