Job Overview: The Mechanical Technician, Assembly position is situated within the Assembly and Commissioning Support Division (ACSD) of the Engineering Services Department (ESD) at the ITER Organization. This role is crucial for providing technical support and guidance during the assembly and installation phases of the ITER project. The technician will be responsible for ensuring that all assembly activities are conducted safely and meet quality standards, contributing to the overall success of the project. The position requires a systematic approach to work, ensuring that deliverables align with project schedules and budgets. The technician will also have opportunities for professional development under the guidance of a discipline manager, enhancing their skills and experience in the field of mechanical engineering and assembly.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician, Assembly include producing and reviewing technical documentation, developing assembly plans and procedures, and reviewing workshop drawings and installation procedures. The technician will also contribute to the development and follow-up of assembly tools and mock-ups necessary for the execution of assigned activities. They will provide technical support during assembly, installation, and commissioning activities, collaborating on troubleshooting assembly and installation issues. Additionally, the technician will apply relevant Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) standards, supervise on-site works, and ensure that preservation requirements are implemented during the assembly and installation phases. The role may also involve working at heights and undertaking other duties as required by the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Extensive professional experience in similar roles may substitute for formal education. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in supporting the design, manufacturing, assembly, and installation of complex mechanical systems, particularly in international environments. Knowledge of mechanical engineering practices, assembly and installation processes, and health and safety regulations is essential. Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are also required. Desirable qualifications include understanding industry codes and standards, experience in fabrication and welding techniques, and the ability to manage complexity and problem-solving in a dynamic environment.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required for this position. Candidates with extensive professional experience in relevant fields may be considered in lieu of formal educational qualifications. Additional training certificates in related domains may also be beneficial and considered during the selection process.
Experience: Candidates should have proven experience in providing technical support for the design, manufacturing, assembly, and installation of complex mechanical systems. Experience in international projects or environments is highly valued. Practical knowledge of health and safety regulations on construction sites, as well as experience in maintaining high cleanliness standards during assembly and installation activities, is essential. The ability to communicate effectively and propose improvements to processes for enhanced efficiency and quality is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: The position offers an initial employment contract of up to five years, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The selection process aims to fill multiple positions and create a reserve list for future vacancies, which will remain valid for two years. The job grade for this position starts at G4, with the final grade determined by the IO Director General.
