Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Field Security Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief of Mission in Nicosia by coordinating and implementing security-related aspects of the Country Office’s field operations. This position is integral to ensuring the safety and security of IOM personnel, premises, and operations, particularly in the context of IOM Cyprus's work with migrants, including unaccompanied minors. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders, including the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), local authorities, and host government agencies, to maintain effective communication and gather up-to-date security information. The role requires a proactive approach to developing and implementing security plans, conducting security surveys, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The Field Security Assistant will also be responsible for training staff on security awareness and maintaining an orderly filing system for confidential security documents.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Security Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: maintaining effective working relationships with the UNDSS office and local authorities; assisting the Chief of Mission in collecting and communicating security-related information; supporting the development and implementation of security plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); ensuring compliance with safety protocols among staff; conducting security surveys of IOM offices; managing the Country Office Warden system; disseminating safety and security information to IOM personnel; reporting security incidents affecting IOM operations; organizing training courses on security awareness; maintaining a database of contact details for security authorities; conducting regular checks of project facilities for compliance with security standards; and supporting awareness sessions on personal safety and de-escalation techniques in migrant-centre contexts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. The organization values candidates who have relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors, particularly those with experience in security coordination and administrative support for international organizations.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, or Communications from an accredited academic institution. Candidates with a High School diploma may also qualify if they have sufficient relevant professional experience. Accreditation of the educational institution must be verified through the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have relevant professional experience in the humanitarian sector, public service, or corporate environments. Experience in providing security coordination and administrative support for international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with radio communications and successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course are also considered advantageous. The position requires a candidate who can demonstrate a solid understanding of security protocols and practices in a complex operational environment.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly IOM's official languages such as French and Spanish, is considered a plus. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Cyprus will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations.
