Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Assistant position is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of IOM's premises and personnel in Cyprus. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Senior Accounting Finance and Administrative Assistant. This role involves monitoring access to IOM facilities, conducting inspections of security equipment, and responding to emergencies. The Security Assistant will also assist in implementing emergency plans, maintain relationships with local security authorities, and ensure compliance with safety protocols. The position requires a proactive approach to security management and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to ensure a secure working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties including: monitoring and controlling access to IOM premises, ensuring compliance with entry and exit procedures; conducting routine inspections of security equipment and office conditions; responding promptly to emergencies and suspicious activities; assisting in the implementation of emergency contingency plans and participating in evacuation drills; maintaining effective working relationships with UNDSS, host government agencies, and local security authorities; supporting the development and implementation of mission-specific security plans and SOPs; monitoring staff compliance with safety protocols; maintaining the Country Office Warden system; ensuring the operability of communication systems; preparing security incident reports and documentation; maintaining orderly filing systems for confidential security correspondence; conducting security briefings for new personnel; promoting understanding of security management systems; ensuring office equipment is turned off after hours; maintaining visitor logs and issuing passes; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, or Communications. Candidates with a high school diploma may also apply if they have sufficient relevant experience. The degree must be from an accredited academic institution recognized by UNESCO.
Experience: Candidates should have prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, or government institutions in a multicultural setting. Experience in high-security or emergency settings is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to handle challenging situations effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is required for this position. IOM's official languages also include French and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
