Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been operational for over two decades, focusing on making the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. UNODC operates through a network of field offices and global programs, providing practical assistance and encouraging transnational cooperation among member states. The organization is committed to supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the importance of rule of law and effective justice systems as essential components of sustainable development. The Border Management Branch, established in April 2022, aims to deliver comprehensive technical assistance in border management, encompassing various programs such as the Airport Communication Programme (AIRCOP), Container Control Programme (CCP), Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), and the Criminal Network Disruption Programme (CRIMJUST).
Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for the Global Programme on Criminal Network Disruption (GPCD) involves supporting the branding and visibility efforts of UNODC, particularly through graphic design. The GPCD was created to enhance intelligence-led and cooperative criminal justice responses across regions, focusing on disrupting transnational organized crime networks. The Online Volunteer will work under the guidance of the CRIMJUST Coordinator and collaborate closely with the communications team to produce various graphic design materials that align with the GPCD Branding Guidelines. This role provides an opportunity to engage with the Global Programme team and gain insights into how graphic design contributes to branding initiatives within the UNODC framework.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be responsible for a range of graphic design tasks, including:
Designing four Roadmap covers;
Creating one cover for a handbook;
Developing an editable cover/template for four regular narrative reports;
Designing two covers for final narrative reports;
Laying out three publications and impact documents;
Designing one activity report. The volunteer will ensure that all designs adhere to the established branding guidelines and contribute to the professional visibility of UNODC and the Border Management Branch. This role will also involve collaboration with team members to ensure that the designs effectively communicate the intended messages and support the overall objectives of the Global Programme.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position should possess strong graphic design skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). A good understanding of branding principles and experience in creating visually appealing materials is essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively is also important. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity and attention to detail in their design work.
Educational Background: A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or training that demonstrates their design capabilities and understanding of branding concepts. A portfolio showcasing previous design work will be beneficial in the application process.
Experience: While specific years of experience may not be required, candidates should have a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality graphic design work. Experience in working on branding projects or with organizations in the non-profit or international development sectors is a plus. Familiarity with the UN system or similar organizations can also be advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all communications and design guidelines will be provided in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to UNODC's work, such as Spanish or French, would be considered an asset but is not required.
