Job Overview: The Data and AI Analyst position is crucial in addressing the complex and interconnected nature of organized crime in Peru, particularly in relation to drug trafficking, illegal mining, money laundering, and environmental crimes. The role involves utilizing advanced data science and artificial intelligence technologies to shift from reactive to proactive responses in combating these illicit activities. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing vast amounts of data to identify patterns and anticipate criminal hotspots, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security strategies and policy formulation. This position requires a blend of technical skills in data management, statistical analysis, and machine learning, along with a commitment to fostering an evidence-based culture within law enforcement and investigative units.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data and AI Analyst will perform a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Data Analysis and Research Project Coordinator. Key responsibilities include:
Data Management and Consolidation: Identify, collect, and centralize relevant data sources while ensuring their quality, integrity, and security.
Analysis and Investigation: Apply statistical and modeling techniques to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in illicit activities. Utilize social network analysis (SNA) to map and understand key actors within criminal organizations.
AI Model Development and Implementation: Design, train, and implement machine learning models for predictive and prescriptive purposes, including classification models using natural language processing (NLP) to analyze text reports.
Generation of Actionable Intelligence: Develop interactive dashboards and visualizations for operational leaders, and prepare evidence-based strategic reports recommending resource optimization and procedural improvements.
Capacity Building: Collaborate with investigative and operational units to ensure data products meet their needs, and train analysts and law enforcement personnel in data analysis fundamentals. Additionally, the analyst will engage in volunteerism activities, contribute to UNV publications, and promote online volunteering.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong foundation in data analysis and artificial intelligence, with proficiency in statistical software and programming languages such as Python or R. Familiarity with machine learning techniques and tools is essential. The role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to ethical practices and integrity in their work, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in data analysis, machine learning, or a related field. Experience working with law enforcement or in the context of combating organized crime is highly desirable. Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Peru. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and collaboration with international teams. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
