Job Overview: The AgricultureEconomist position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the Agriculture and Food Global Practice (AGF GP), specifically focusing on the Republic of Congo. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the AGF GP's work program, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security in the region. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders, including government counterparts, development partners, and internal teams, to ensure the successful delivery of agriculture and food-related projects. The Agriculture Economist will contribute to policy dialogues, provide technical assistance, and represent the World Bank in relevant forums, all while working towards the overarching goal of eradicating extreme poverty and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Agriculture Economist include:
Supporting the preparation and supervision of operations led by the Agriculture and Food team in the Republic of Congo, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of projects.
Contributing to analytical products and maintaining high-level engagement with key government counterparts on strategic program and policy issues related to sustainable agriculture and food systems.
Leading or contributing to policy dialogues on agricultural and rural development, while alerting management to critical issues requiring attention.
Representing the World Bank in discussions with development partners and the private sector, providing support to collaborative efforts in the agriculture sector.
Offering technical assistance to the Government in thematic areas related to agriculture and food systems.
Participating in country team meetings to stay informed about agricultural sector developments and emerging issues.
Collaborating with staff from other Global Practices and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to ensure coherence in the agriculture portfolio.
Supporting the management of the Agriculture and Food GP by contributing to corporate and regional initiatives and representing the Bank at public events as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Agriculture Economist position must possess a minimum of a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Agriculture, or related fields. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant working experience in agriculture, agricultural economics, agribusiness, or food systems is required. Candidates should have at least six years of experience addressing agricultural development issues and experience managing or supporting the implementation of development assistance projects. Familiarity with World Bank or other donor-funded projects is considered advantageous. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and team skills are essential, along with the ability to navigate complex cultural, political, and gender issues. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory, with French language skills being a plus.
