Job Overview:
The Manager of Platform Engineering at the World Bank Group plays a crucial role in leading the design, development, and maintenance of the organization's foundational technology platforms. This position is integral to ensuring that the platforms are secure, resilient, and scalable, aligning with the organization's governance and risk management standards. The Manager will oversee the modernization and automation of core platform services, driving the adoption of advanced engineering practices such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that the platform ecosystem evolves to meet organizational needs while reducing technical debt and operational friction. The Manager will also be responsible for building and leading a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, and ensuring that the platforms support the World Bank Group's mission effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Manager of ITS Platform Engineering will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Providing strategic and operational leadership for the design, development, and maintenance of the World Bank Group’s foundational technology platforms.
  • Ensuring that all platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, and compliant with governance, risk, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards.
  • Setting the strategic direction for platform engineering and aligning team priorities with organizational objectives.
  • Overseeing talent management processes, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluation, and career development.
  • Leading the modernization and automation of core platform services to enhance scalability and efficiency.
  • Driving the adoption of Agile, DevOps, and SAFe practices to improve predictability and value delivery.
  • Partnering with Lines of Business and technology leaders to co-create platform investment priorities.
  • Developing and executing the annual roadmap for platform engineering initiatives.
  • Building and mentoring a diverse, high-performing engineering team. 1
  • Communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and supporting organizational change initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems, along with 12+ years of progressively responsible IT and platform engineering leadership experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of relevant experience is acceptable. Candidates should have at least 10 years of hands-on experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, automation, and solution delivery, preferably in large financial, governmental, or multinational organizations. Strong knowledge of cloud frameworks and standards, automation tools, and platform governance best practices is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate expertise in enterprise platform architecture and have experience implementing automated deployment and CI/CD pipelines.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems. A Bachelor’s degree may be acceptable if accompanied by significant relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in technology and engineering principles, with a focus on platform engineering and cloud infrastructure.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in IT and platform engineering leadership, or 15 years with a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and automation, with a proven track record of delivering results in complex, fast-paced enterprise environments. Experience in managing cross-functional engineering teams and leading technology transformation initiatives is also essential.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, although not explicitly required.
