Job Overview: The Social Media Consultant position at UNICEF ESARO is designed to enhance the organization's digital presence and support advocacy objectives concerning critical issues affecting children. The consultant will be responsible for producing engaging and creative content tailored for various social media platforms, particularly focusing on youth engagement and raising awareness about children's challenges. The role involves regular collaboration with colleagues from Country Offices and Headquarters to ensure consistency in digital content and storytelling. The consultant will manage day-to-day activities on UNICEF ESARO's social media channels, support the Regional Director's social media efforts, and provide digital capacity training to teams. The overarching goal is to strengthen UNICEF's leadership and credibility as a voice for children, leveraging social media as a strategic tool for engagement and advocacy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will manage the UNICEF ESARO social media channels, ensuring a consistent flow of engaging content that aligns with regional priorities. Responsibilities include supporting the Regional Director's social media channels, providing digital capacity training to staff, and assisting in the creation and coordination of social media strategies and campaigns. The consultant will also monitor and analyze social media performance, moderate platforms, and provide technical assistance to Country Offices. Additional duties involve supporting communication for regional advocacy priorities, humanitarian emergencies, and donor visibility efforts. The consultant will also be involved in researching and recruiting the next ESAR Regional Ambassador and outreach to influencers to enhance communication and advocacy efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred, but a related degree with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted. The position requires at least eight years of professional work experience in communication or a related field, with proven advocacy experience and a strong understanding of development issues, particularly those affecting children. Excellent project management, analytical, and writing skills are essential, along with high-level communication skills, including formal public speaking. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and knowledge of Eastern and Southern Africa is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate UNICEF's core values of care, respect, integrity, trust, accountability, and sustainability.
Educational Background: A university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred, but candidates with a related degree and additional relevant experience may be considered. Additional Notes: The consultancy can be performed remotely, but the consultant must adhere to the working hours of Nairobi, Kenya. Progress meetings will be scheduled throughout the contract duration. All travel, if necessary, will be reimbursed according to UNICEF policy, and the consultant is responsible for ensuring valid visa and health insurance for the contract period. The contract will cover all costs incurred by the consultant, such as phone, equipment, and internet. Payment will be made upon satisfactory completion of deliverables, with no advance payments allowed unless in exceptional circumstances. Selected candidates must confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely. Consultants are not considered staff members and will not receive benefits typically provided to staff, such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage.
