Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to ensuring a workplace where all employees can thrive professionally while striving to fully harness the potential of migration. Established in 1951, IOM operates in over 150 countries and has a diverse workforce dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The organization focuses on various aspects of migration, including humanitarian assistance, development, and policy advocacy, and aims to support migrants and communities affected by migration.
Job Overview: The internship program at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who are particularly interested in areas related to IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between the ages of 20 and 36 and have less than two years of relevant professional experience. The internship aims to provide practical experience in a multicultural international environment, particularly within the United Nations system. Interns will support the office in managing logistics tasks under the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer. The learning objectives include researching new suppliers, requesting quotes, identifying local service providers, and assisting in inventory management. Interns will also gain insights into the work of IOM as an intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and will have access to online training courses available to all IOM staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for supporting various logistics tasks, including: researching and requesting quotes from suppliers, identifying local service providers, responding to program quote requests, assisting the logistics assistant with filing according to standard procedures, ensuring appropriate authorization levels are received before placing orders, monitoring the status of purchase orders, keeping track of the availability of goods, assisting in inventory management, ensuring regular inventory checks, and maintaining office supplies and equipment. Additionally, interns may be required to perform other tasks as needed to support the logistics team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in their final year of a bachelor's degree program (minimum level of BAC+3) in transportation, logistics, or a related field from an accredited institution. They should have a strong understanding of public administration and the roles of state and non-state actors. Excellent computer skills, particularly in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), are essential. Candidates should also possess exceptional writing and reporting skills, the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, and strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree (BAC+3) in transportation, logistics, or a related field from an accredited institution is required for this position. This educational background is crucial as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of supply chain management and logistics operations within an international organization.
Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in supply chain management. Experience within the United Nations system or any other international organization will be considered an advantage. Additionally, experience in procurement processes within international or governmental frameworks is beneficial, as it equips candidates with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of logistics and supply chain operations.
Languages: The official languages of IOM are English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in French is required for this position, as it is essential for communication and documentation within the organization. Language proficiency will be specifically assessed during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral evaluations to ensure candidates meet the necessary language requirements.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to the availability of funding, and the appointment will be contingent upon the candidate's medical fitness for the position, verification of residency, visa, and any necessary government-issued permits. Interns receive a small monthly allowance to help cover expenses, but those receiving a stipend or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or course credits will not be eligible for this allowance. IOM provides coverage for interns against work-related accidents and occupational diseases during their assignment but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-work-related accidents or illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-work-related incidents and must provide written proof of coverage before starting work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding behaviors incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination based on sex, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religious or ethnic origin, or disability. IOM does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system, which allows candidates to track the status of their applications.
