Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Nurse position is a critical role within the UNDP framework, particularly in the context of enhancing the health and wellbeing of UN personnel amidst the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The nurse will operate under the supervision of the health manager or a designated representative, engaging in both clinical and medico-administrative duties. The role requires a proactive approach to responding to emergency medical situations, liaising effectively with medical officers, and ensuring comprehensive care for patients. The nurse will also be involved in the management and organization of health facilities, including fever clinics and isolation wards, while assisting in the follow-up of positive COVID-19 cases. This position emphasizes the importance of health education and promotion, as well as the necessity for preparedness among staff traveling on missions. The nurse will play a vital role in ensuring that all medical protocols are adhered to and that the health needs of UN personnel are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer Nurse will be responsible for a variety of clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical duties include responding to emergency calls, assisting medical officers, ensuring effective communication between patients and healthcare providers, and documenting case findings. The nurse will assist in managing the fever clinic and isolation ward, track positive COVID-19 cases, perform diagnostic tests, and conduct clinical assessments of patients. Additionally, the nurse will provide health education, participate in work environment assessments, and ensure staff preparedness for travel-related health issues. Medico-administrative responsibilities involve assisting the clinic team, ensuring proper sterilization of medical instruments, maintaining medical records, and managing inventory and stock control of medical supplies. The nurse will also be expected to perform any other duties as assigned by the health manager, contributing to the overall health and safety of UN personnel.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer Nurse position must possess a valid nursing license and relevant qualifications in nursing. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to health care and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. A proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability to changing situations are essential. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of health promotion and disease prevention strategies, particularly in the context of infectious diseases.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a diploma in nursing or a related field is required for this position. A bachelor's degree in nursing or a related health field is preferred. Candidates should have completed relevant training in emergency care, public health, or infectious disease management, which will enhance their ability to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least two years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a clinical setting. Experience working in emergency response or within international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the health challenges faced in South Sudan or similar contexts will be an advantage, as will experience in managing health programs or initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication with patients and local communities.

This is a national assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for their own accommodation.
