Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Senior Director for Health Financing will play a pivotal role in CHAI’s Health Systems Strengthening cluster, which aims to build resilient and equitable health systems. This position will involve working closely with government ministries to enhance health spending, optimize national systems, and implement reforms that improve service delivery and health outcomes. The role will focus on health financing, including resource mobilization, budgeting, and public financial management. The Senior Director will provide technical guidance across multiple countries, ensuring coherence and strategic alignment in CHAI’s public finance initiatives. This position will also involve collaboration with various CHAI programs and global technical teams to deliver practical, data-driven support tailored to country priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to CHAI country and program teams, serving as a central authority for public financing work.
Facilitate internal and external communication across programs and geographies.
Collaborate with country teams to support Ministries of Health and Finance in resource mobilization and budget management.
Promote rigorous analytical methods to assess health financing systems and drive efficiency gains.
Identify and iterate on new approaches for health financing, adapting them for scale across countries.
Manage a core project team and collaborate across the Health Systems Strengthening cluster.
Support onboarding of new staff and drive delivery of key projects.
Facilitate rapid learning cycles and develop robust monitoring approaches to track progress.
Document and synthesize insights from cross-country efforts to drive continuous improvement. 1
Engage with donors and partners to align funding opportunities with country and global priorities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess 10-15+ years of experience in health financing within low- and middle-income countries, ideally with experience in a matrixed organization like CHAI. They should demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of government health priorities and decision-making processes. Experience with analytical tools for health system planning and policy decisions is essential. Candidates should be skilled at synthesizing complex information into actionable insights and possess excellent communication skills. Comfort in fast-paced environments requiring adaptability and strategic thinking is crucial. Experience in resource mobilization is a plus, along with a background in engaging with high-level government officials.
Educational Background: A relevant advanced degree in public health, health economics, public policy, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with additional certifications or training in health financing or management will be preferred.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have extensive experience (10-15+ years) in health financing, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Experience in coordinating complex projects across multiple teams or countries is essential, along with a strong understanding of health system planning and policy. Previous roles should demonstrate the ability to engage with senior policymakers and drive meaningful policy changes.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages relevant to the regions of operation would be advantageous, particularly languages spoken in the countries where CHAI operates.
