The organization operates in more than 60 countries and employs thousands of individuals who are committed to making a positive impact in various sectors, including health, education, and economic development. FHI 360's mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities worldwide, and it focuses on evidence-based approaches to achieve sustainable results.
Job Overview: The Nutrition Technical Advisor will play a crucial role in the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, which is funded by the U.S. Government and aims to achieve HIV epidemic control among at-risk populations. This position involves providing technical assistance for planning, implementing, and monitoring nutrition activities at various levels, including national, departmental, and community levels. The Advisor will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), implementing partners, and FHI 360’s technical teams to enhance the quality of nutrition service delivery. The role emphasizes the integration of nutrition into maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) and HIV services, as well as building the capacity of local health providers. The position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and there is a preference for candidates who are Haitian nationals. The Advisor will support evidence-based nutrition interventions, such as maternal and infant nutrition counseling, growth monitoring, and community engagement to promote healthy feeding practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nutrition Technical Advisor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including providing technical input for the implementation of nutrition interventions, ensuring adherence to MSPP standards, and supporting the integration of nutrition assessment and counseling within MNCH and HIV services. The Advisor will guide maternal, infant, and young child nutrition interventions, assist in adapting national nutrition guidelines, and strengthen coordination between MSPP and partner NGOs. Additionally, the Advisor will participate in training sessions, provide ongoing technical coaching, and support quality improvement activities related to nutrition. The role also involves collaborating with the EpiC SI/MEL team to ensure accurate data collection and analysis, reviewing partner reports, and documenting best practices. The Advisor will maintain relationships with donors and represent EpiC Haiti in various technical working groups and meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a solid understanding of nutrition programming within health systems, particularly in relation to MNCH and HIV platforms. They should have the ability to translate technical guidance into practical strategies and demonstrate strong interpersonal, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Excellent writing, presentation, and communication abilities are essential, along with familiarity with PEPFAR reporting requirements. The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines is crucial, as is an understanding of the ethical and cultural dimensions of working in Haiti.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the nutrition programming efforts in Haiti.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition service delivery or technical assistance within public health programs is required. Candidates should have experience implementing community-based nutrition interventions in Haiti or similar settings, as well as knowledge of MSPP nutrition strategies and monitoring systems. Experience working with PEPFAR-funded programs is strongly preferred, and candidates should demonstrate the ability to provide hands-on capacity strengthening and quality assurance support to implementing partners.
Languages: Fluency in French and Haitian Creole is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with local stakeholders is crucial. Advanced proficiency in English is strongly preferred, as it will facilitate collaboration with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position requires a willingness and ability to travel within all ten departments of Haiti as needed. Candidates should be prepared to work extended hours at a computer and have the physical ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods, as well as lift up to 5 lbs if necessary. This job posting summarizes the main duties of the position but does not prescribe or restrict the exact tasks that may be assigned. FHI 360 is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to safeguarding against abuse and exploitation in its work environments.
