The Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) is part of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The division focuses on providing normative-analytical and capacity-development activities to its 53 member states and 9 associate members. It aims to address the diverse geographic, demographic, and socioeconomic conditions of these countries. MPFD engages in analytical studies, policy-oriented research, and capacity building, facilitating policy dialogues on macroeconomic and financing issues that are critical for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the MPFD is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to research and capacity development activities related to macroeconomic policy and financing for development. Interns will work under the guidance of the Section Chief and a responsible officer, engaging in various research tasks that support the division's objectives. The internship is full-time and unpaid, with a minimum duration of three months, extendable up to six months. Interns will be involved in two main areas: macroeconomic policy and analysis, and financing for development. They will conduct research, analyze data, and assist in organizing workshops and meetings that aim to address pressing economic issues in the region. This role is ideal for those looking to gain practical experience in a UN environment while contributing to significant developmental goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will undertake a variety of tasks that include conducting research and analysis in macroeconomic policy areas such as monetary and fiscal policy, tax cooperation, and public finance governance. They will identify risks to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region and prepare analytical inputs for ESCAP publications. In the area of financing for development, interns will research sustainable financing instruments, support the implementation of demonstration projects, and assist in tracking trends related to financing for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They will also prepare summary tables and graphs for various publications and perform other related duties as assigned by their supervisors. The role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the division.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet specific educational requirements, including being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree. Candidates should have a background in fields such as macroeconomics, international economics, development studies, or related areas. While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the United Nations' work and possess the ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds. Skills in statistical software and data analysis are desirable, along with good communication and drafting abilities. Interns should be able to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level). Relevant fields of study include macroeconomics, international economics, development economics, political economy, applied econometrics, finance, environmental studies, business administration, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complex issues addressed by the MPFD.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should possess relevant training, education, or skills that can contribute to the work of the United Nations during their internship. The ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage tasks under tight deadlines is highly valued.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Chinese, or Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
