IOM Indonesia aims to improve the quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to it by the Government of Indonesia, adhering to applicable international humanitarian and human rights standards. Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals who are enrolled in their final academic year of a first university degree program or have recently graduated. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the National Migration Health Officer in Batam and will also coordinate closely with the Programme Associate (Refugee Care). The primary focus of this role is to provide support for the day-to-day implementation of Refugee Care activities in Batam. The intern will participate in the implementation of the Migration Health Unit programme, particularly in organizing events and supporting various programme activities. This role is crucial for gaining practical experience in the field of migration health and refugee care, allowing the intern to contribute to meaningful initiatives that impact the lives of migrants and refugees.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including participating in the implementation of the Migration Health Unit programme, organizing events, and providing support for day-to-day programme activities. Specific duties include co-facilitating general/non-clinical counselling sessions under the supervision of the Migration Health Unit, maintaining documentation and record-keeping for training sessions and meetings, assisting in health-related activities such as awareness sessions and health cadre meetings, and managing Freshdesk tickets within the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism. The intern will also support the AVRR and associated movement procedures, work closely with the Migration Health and Refugee Care teams to enhance health information accuracy, and undertake any other related duties as assigned. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a second university degree or have graduated within one year of graduation. Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations or volunteer groups is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and SPSS, and demonstrate flexibility and openness to learning new experiences.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme or having graduated within the last year. The degree should be in a relevant field such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related area. This educational requirement ensures that candidates have the foundational knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to the Migration Health Unit's activities and support the implementation of refugee care initiatives.
Experience: While specific professional experience is not mandatory, relevant volunteer experience or involvement with civil society organizations is advantageous. Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, as well as verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
