Job Overview: The position of Praktikant*in in the global project Connective Cities involves supporting the team in the implementation and further development of the project's conceptual framework. The intern will conduct analyses on issues at the intersection of municipal development cooperation and sustainable urban development. This role also includes assisting in the preparation of content and organization for various events, workshops, training sessions, and study trips, both online and hybrid, as well as managing knowledge for the urban platform. The intern will have the opportunity to engage with urban actors from developing, emerging, and industrialized countries, facilitating the exchange of experiences and collaborative project idea development for sustainable urban development.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern at GIZ, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the team in the implementation and further development of the project's conceptual framework.
Conducting analyses related to municipal development cooperation and sustainable urban development.
Assisting in the content and organizational preparation of events, workshops, training sessions, and study trips, including online and hybrid formats.
Taking on short-term tasks that arise in daily operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be enrolled in a degree program from the 3rd semester onwards in fields such as urban or spatial planning, architecture, geography, energy, climate issues, or related areas. Practical experience in sustainable urban development or similar fields through internships or exchange semesters in developing or emerging countries is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both German and English are required, while knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish or French is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate openness, initiative, and good organizational skills, along with proficiency in common MS Office applications. Familiarity with TYPO3 and InDesign is a plus, as is the ability to prepare relevant content (texts, images, dates, etc.) for various online platforms (social media, websites, and virtual platforms).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, specifically from the 3rd semester onwards in fields related to urban or spatial planning, architecture, geography, energy, climate issues, or similar disciplines. The internship is only possible if the candidate is currently enrolled, in a training program that includes an internship, or has graduated no more than 6 months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have practical experience, preferably in sustainable urban development or related fields, which can be gained through internships or study abroad programs in developing or emerging countries. This experience is essential to understand the complexities of urban development and the challenges faced in different contexts.
Languages: Fluency in both German and English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of other languages such as Spanish and French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in diverse environments and with various stakeholders.
