Job Overview:
The intern will support the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) team in various media analysis projects. The role involves identifying and quantifying media trends, performing audits of existing research, and analyzing how UNICEF and other organizations are perceived in online conversations. The intern will work under the guidance of the Insights Analyst Consultant and the Market Research Manager, contributing to the understanding of audience perceptions and behaviors towards UNICEF. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in media analysis and research methodologies, with a focus on actionable insights derived from data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will evolve over the course of the internship. In the first month, the intern will onboard with UNICEF and familiarize themselves with media crawling tools like TalkWalker, as well as learn to create search term queries using Boolean logic. From months 1 to 6, the intern will conduct analyses of media trends based on research briefs, perform audits of existing research, and assist in preparing insights summaries and presentations. By months 3 to 6, the intern will help synthesize findings from various data sources into actionable insights, support ad-hoc data analysis requests, and identify recurring insights to refine analytical frameworks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have graduated within the last two years from a relevant undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. program in fields such as Communications, Marketing, or Data/Social Sciences. Applicants should be at least 18 years old and demonstrate excellent academic performance. Strong writing skills, the ability to create professional presentations, and no immediate relatives working at UNICEF are also required. Additionally, candidates must have reliable internet access and familiarity with collaboration tools, as well as strong critical-thinking and data-interpretation skills.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential, with candidates expected to be enrolled in or have recently graduated from programs related to Communications, Marketing, Data/Social Sciences, or similar fields. This educational foundation will equip candidates with the necessary skills to engage in media analysis and research effectively.

Experience:
While prior experience in media analysis and analytics is desirable, it is not mandatory. Candidates with experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, such as interviews, surveys, or data coding, will be given additional consideration. Experience working in multicultural or international teams is also beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse audiences and contribute to UNICEF's global mission.

  • The intern will report to the Market Research Manager and collaborate with teams across different time zones. Candidates in time zones UTC−1 to UTC+2 are preferred for optimal collaboration. Selected candidates must ensure valid visa and health insurance for the contract duration and confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19 if required to work on-site.
