Job Overview: The Lead Developer for the Eye on Methane data platform will be responsible for the end-to-end full-stack development of a robust, secure, and high-performing data platform that integrates multiple methane data streams. This includes satellite data, company reporting, scientific studies, and national inventories. The platform aims to continuously evolve with new features and tools tailored for users, ensuring scalability, data quality, and compliance with UN standards. The role requires a hands-on approach to coding and collaboration with various teams to deliver production-grade features, improve developer productivity, and enhance data accessibility. The developer will work closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into functional software, ensuring timely delivery and high reliability of the platform.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Full-stack development & delivery: Write production-grade code across the stack, including front-end dashboards and data visualizations, as well as back-end APIs and services. Deliver new features end-to-end, from concept to deployment, while collaborating with design and product teams. Build reusable components to accelerate development.
Integration of cross-sectoral methane data streams: Implement ingestion and processing pipelines for various data sources, ensuring data quality and optimizing for scale and efficiency.
Collaboration & leadership: Work closely with product managers and designers, provide mentorship to developers, and participate in external collaborations.
Monitoring and Progress Controls: Ensure timely delivery of features, maintain high platform reliability, and gather positive feedback from users.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, software development, or a related field. They should have at least 7 years of experience in product delivery, working closely with design, data, development, product, and QA teams. Strong experience in full-stack development is essential, including proficiency in front-end technologies like React and TypeScript, as well as back-end technologies such as Python and Node.js. Proven expertise in data visualization and UI/UX design is required, along with experience in geospatial services and cloud environments.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, software development, or a similar field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas may be advantageous but are not mandatory.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in delivering products, with a strong focus on full-stack development. Experience in working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including design, data, and product management, is crucial. Proven experience in deploying and scaling services in cloud environments is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN.
