Job Overview: The Operations Officer (OO) position is crucial for supporting the strategic priorities of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) within the Eastern and Southern Africa region. The OO will engage in the origination, design, and implementation of client engagements, working closely with colleagues from various sectors including Industry and Country teams, as well as the World Bank Group. The role emphasizes business development and project management, requiring the OO to lead the identification and assessment of opportunities in the region, collaborate with the World Bank to implement necessary sector and regulatory reforms, and provide quality research and analysis to create market opportunities. The OO will also be responsible for designing and implementing high-quality advisory initiatives, developing compelling proposals for clients, and managing fundraising initiatives. This position is integral to enhancing financial access and facilitating job creation, aligning with the broader mission of the WBG to address development challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Operations Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: leading the identification and assessment of opportunities in Eastern and Southern Africa; collaborating with IFC investment and country teams; conducting quality research and analysis for market creation; leading the design and implementation of advisory initiatives; developing pitch books and proposals for clients; managing fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Partnerships team; building partnerships with stakeholders across IFC and the World Bank Group; leading project teams and ensuring timely delivery of work programs; producing regular reports on project portfolios; coordinating knowledge dissemination and exchange initiatives; mentoring junior team members; and contributing to thought leadership through expertise and participation in conferences and training activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, International Development, or related fields. They should have a demonstrated experience of at least 12 years in the financial sector, with a minimum of 8 years in Banking or related consulting services. A strong track record in the origination, design, implementation, management, oversight, and monitoring of both technical assistance and investment projects is essential. Candidates should also have a robust understanding of the financial sector, including the ability to link policy reforms and advisory interventions to create markets and deliver scalable solutions. Knowledge of FIG Upstream/Advisory areas, strong numerical and analytical skills, and excellent leadership capabilities are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master’s degree in relevant fields such as Business, Economics, Finance, or International Development. This advanced education is critical for understanding the complexities of financial institutions and the advisory services provided by the IFC.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically at least 12 years in the financial sector, with a focus on Banking or related consulting services for a minimum of 8 years.
