Job Description
Job Posting Organization: UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is a leading organization dedicated to promoting children's rights and well-being globally. Established in 1946, UNICEF has been operational for over 70 years, working in 190 countries and territories. The organization focuses on children's survival, protection, and development, providing essential services such as vaccinations, education, and protection from violence and exploitation. With a workforce of over 12,000 employees, UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and governments, ensuring its independence and ability to respond to the needs of children worldwide.
Job Overview: The consultancy role is centered around the Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) initiative, which is crucial for child survival in populations deficient in vitamin A. The consultant will be responsible for consolidating and synthesizing various reports and analyses related to VAS, particularly focusing on gender equality and women's empowerment in the context of VAS services. The consultant will work closely with UNICEF's headquarters and regional teams to draft comprehensive reports, ensure quality assurance of country office submissions, and support dissemination activities that highlight the importance of gender in VAS delivery. This role requires a deep understanding of the challenges faced in implementing VAS programs and the ability to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including drafting the Year 3 progress report and final project reports for Outcomes 1100 and 1200, ensuring the quality and alignment of reports from 15 country offices, and consolidating narratives related to women's empowerment. The consultant will also document success stories from VINA countries, support gender-related research, and assist in the planning and design of the next phase of the VINA initiative. Specific deliverables include drafting reports, conducting quality assurance, preparing results tables, and organizing webinars to disseminate key learnings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health or Public Health Nutrition, with a focus on gender and health or gender and nutrition. A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in international gender and health/nutrition is required, along with at least 1 year of experience in vitamin A or child survival programming. Familiarity with UNICEF's work in children's rights and gender empowerment is advantageous. Strong writing skills, particularly in gender and nutrition topics, and experience in donor reporting processes are essential. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment is also necessary.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health or Public Health Nutrition is required, with a specialization in gender and health or gender and nutrition. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of child health interventions and the role of gender in health outcomes.
Experience: The position requires at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in international gender and health/nutrition, with a strong emphasis on practical experience in developing country contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in international agencies, particularly within the UN system, and should be familiar with the challenges faced in implementing health programs in diverse settings. Experience with UNICEF or similar organizations is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions where the VINA initiative is implemented.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is set to run from February 16, 2026, to March 31, 2026, and is primarily remote. Candidates must complete their profiles in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and submit their academic credentials along with a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel expenses, and selected candidates must ensure they have valid health insurance. Payment will be contingent upon the satisfactory completion of deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if standards are not met. Candidates must also confirm their vaccination status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
