Job Overview: The consultancy position at UNICEF involves supporting the development and maintenance of Generative AI (GenAI) and data science-driven spatial and other data discovery, harmonization, validation, curation, and analytics. The consultant will work on various projects, including Wash Insecurity Analysis (WIA), automation of SDG Country Brief Production, and the delivery of SDG and CRAVE consultation results. The role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including UNICEF staff, national governments, and private sector partners, to identify relevant data sources and ensure the effective use of data technology approaches. The consultant will also be responsible for testing and refining AI-driven data workflows and supporting the Frontier Data Network in enhancing data and technology capabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate with stakeholders to identify relevant spatial and other data sources for WIA at the subnational level.
Organize data in standardized SDMX-based structures to maximize reuse of reference data standards.
Design and implement automated SDG country briefs using GenAI, ensuring quality assurance and collaboration with evaluation specialists.
Undertake data preparation, including identification, compilation, cleaning, standardization, and validation of data from various sources.
Create reusable scripts in Python for data harmonization and manage these scripts in UNICEF’s analytics environment.
Store data in agreed-upon data warehouses and spatial platforms using scripts and APIs.
Collaborate with the Frontier Data Network team and other UNICEF data science teams to support big data sources and new analytics methods.
Document methodologies, scripts, and data sources used in the analytics process.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of experience working with data and analytics tools.
Proven experience in implementing ETL pipelines using Python, R, and SQL.
Experience in discovering and harmonizing development data using scripted approaches.
Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms and spatial data processing tools.
Experience in building RAG systems for report generation and working with GenAI QA frameworks.
Proficiency in data science packages such as Pandas and Numpy.
Experience with UNICEF domain data and international development data is an asset.
Fluent in spoken and written English, with additional UN languages being a plus.
Educational Background: A university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field is required for this position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in data and analytics, with a strong background in implementing ETL processes and working with various data sources and analytics tools.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional official UN languages is considered an advantage.
