Job Overview:
The IT Intern position at the Danish Refugee Council involves providing essential technical support to staff members in the DRC office and its field offices. The intern will serve as the primary point of contact for IT-related issues, ensuring that all staff are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively utilize IT resources. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including maintaining IT infrastructure, conducting training sessions, and managing internet connectivity. The intern will also be involved in onboarding new staff, ensuring they have the required IT setup and training to perform their roles effectively. This position is crucial for maintaining operational efficiency and enhancing the digital capabilities of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The IT Intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Providing technical support to staff and addressing IT-related issues promptly.
  • Ensuring all staff are connected to OneDrive for data backup and monitoring its usage.
  • Advising staff on IT best practices and troubleshooting problems.
  • Performing general repairs on office computers and implementing preventive maintenance as per the IT Specialist's guidelines.
  • Identifying IT equipment gaps and communicating them to the IT Specialist.
  • Training area staff on DRC's digital workspace tools, including MS Teams, Yammer, SharePoint, and Planner.
  • Conducting regular cyber security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security training for staff.
  • Managing internet connectivity, including troubleshooting outages and ensuring proper network setup.
  • Preparing laptops for new staff and providing IT induction training. 1
  • Ensuring compliance with DRC's internet policy and conducting investigations when necessary. 1
  • Documenting IT issues and resolutions for future reference. 1
  • Staying current on relevant technologies and making recommendations for IT equipment procurement.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the IT Intern position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from a recognized institution. Additionally, candidates should have more than two years of experience working in an IT support environment, preferably within an international non-governmental organization (INGO). A strong understanding of hardware and software troubleshooting, as well as advanced knowledge of network and communications technology, is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate quick learning abilities, good judgment, and problem-solving skills, along with excellent communication skills in both English and Somali.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from a recognized institution. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the role and effectively supporting the IT needs of the organization.

Experience:
The position requires more than two years of experience in an IT support environment, ideally within an INGO. This experience should include advanced troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of network and communications technology, which are vital for addressing the technical challenges faced by the organization.

Languages:
Fluency in both Somali and English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with staff and stakeholders is essential. Basic knowledge of Arabic is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse environment.
