Job Overview: The position of Communications/Public Relations/External RelationsSupport Officer is part of the EVERSE project at CERN, which aims to foster a collaborative community for evaluating and improving the quality of scientific software. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about modern communications and engaging with scientific communities. The officer will be responsible for developing and maintaining project websites, establishing newsletters, maintaining a social media presence, and planning seminars that highlight key software topics. Additionally, the officer will promote CERN software projects and coordinate with colleagues to ensure the successful delivery of the EVERSE project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include:
Developing and maintaining project websites to ensure they are informative and user-friendly.
Establishing project newsletters that include articles and interviews to keep stakeholders informed.
Maintaining a strong social media presence to promote project activities and engage with the community.
Planning and organizing a software seminar series in collaboration with EVERSE partners to discuss and highlight important software topics.
Promoting CERN software projects, collaborations, and initiatives within EVERSE and related projects.
Coordinating with colleagues in the Experimental Physics (EP) and Information Technology (IT) departments to deliver the EVERSE project effectively.
Attending EVERSE meetings at CERN and other European locations to represent the project and gather insights.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have proven professional experience in communication related to science, technology, and innovation. A broad knowledge of the scientific software development landscape is advantageous. Applicants should possess a commitment to learning French alongside proficiency in spoken and written English. Eligibility criteria include being a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, having a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Communications and Outreach or a related field, and holding either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible for this position.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Outreach, Science Communication, or a related field. A Master's degree in Science Communication will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in a relevant field such as Communications and Outreach. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage with scientific communities and manage communication strategies effectively.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, with a strong emphasis on both spoken and written proficiency. Additionally, candidates are expected to have a commitment to learning French, which is considered beneficial for the role.

The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job offers flexibility in a hybrid working model. The position is classified under the benchmark job of Communications/Public Relations/External Relations Support Officer. Compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5196 to 5716 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year, and there are opportunities for on-the-job training and formal training at CERN, including in-house language courses.
