Job Overview: The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Ingazi initiative, a partnership aimed at empowering young people in Rwanda through education, training, and employment opportunities. This position involves working closely with the Ministry of Youth and Arts and the Ingazi Communication taskforce to develop and disseminate communication materials that inform stakeholders about the initiative's progress. The officer will be responsible for drafting key documents, managing vendor relationships, creating media content for various platforms, and monitoring social media engagement. The role requires a proactive approach to communication, ensuring that updates and feedback are effectively communicated to partners and stakeholders. The officer will also engage with INGAZI Ambassadors to track program impact and support the overall goals of Generation Unlimited in Rwanda.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer's duties include drafting concept notes, progress reports, and briefing notes for local and global reports. They will manage vendor relationships, develop communication materials, and track payments. The officer will create and post media content on social media platforms, monitor engagement, and respond to queries. They will collect feedback from users of the Ingazi platform and draft content for the Ingazi website, including newsletters and press releases. Additionally, the officer will coordinate outreach with INGAZI Ambassadors, organize virtual learning sessions, and provide administrative support for events and logistics. Monthly status reports on platform performance and social media analytics will also be part of their responsibilities, ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed of progress.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to draft clear and concise documents. Proficiency in social media management and content creation is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience in project management and stakeholder engagement, demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Familiarity with the education and youth employment sectors in Rwanda is highly desirable, as is a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in all communications. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial for managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication strategies and tools, particularly in the context of youth engagement and development.
Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or a related field is required. Experience working with youth programs or initiatives, particularly in an international or non-profit context, is highly valued. Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media platforms is essential, along with a proven track record of managing communication projects from conception to execution.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Proficiency in Kinyarwanda or French is considered an asset, as it will enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial in engaging with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: This position is a UN Volunteer role, which means it is not a salaried position but offers a monthly living allowance to cover basic needs.
