Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant (Social Worker) plays a crucial role in delivering case management services within DRC Community Centers and other locations as needed. Reporting to the Protection Team Leader, the assistant is responsible for conducting protection assessments, developing case plans, mapping services, and making internal and external referrals to relevant services. The role also involves providing Cash for Protection and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) to those in need. The assistant must ensure compliance with DRC's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and international guidelines, while also safeguarding the confidentiality and safety of individuals seeking assistance. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying protection risks and implementing effective case management strategies to support vulnerable individuals and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant's duties include providing case management services in line with DRC SOPs and international standards, conducting assessments of protection risks, developing and implementing case plans, and ensuring proper follow-up and case closure. The assistant will refer cases to internal and external services based on individual needs and consent, provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals in distress, and maintain accurate and confidential case files. Additionally, the assistant will be responsible for identifying cases in need of cash assistance, requesting cash advances, and ensuring proper follow-up on the use of assistance. Regular reporting and documentation are essential, including weekly reports and updates to tracking sheets, while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with other NGOs and stakeholders in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess 1-2 years of experience in protection-related work, particularly in case management services for adults at risk. Previous experience in providing counseling or psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of basic counseling concepts. The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients is crucial, as well as excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure. A commitment to humanitarian work and supporting individuals affected by conflict is essential, and previous experience in international organizations is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field is required. Proven field experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education. Candidates should have a solid understanding of social work principles and practices, particularly in the context of humanitarian assistance.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 1-2 years of relevant experience in protection work, specifically focusing on case management services. Experience in providing counseling and psychosocial support is also important, as well as familiarity with the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in conflict-affected areas. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive issues with empathy and respect, and possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic (reading and writing) is mandatory, while proficiency in English is desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the assistant's ability to engage with clients and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is set to last until December 31, 2026, and it falls within the non-management (I) band. The role reports directly to the Protection Team Leader and is based in Turbah, Yemen. The salary and conditions will align with the Danish Refugee Council’s National Terms of Employment.
