The FAO's subregional office for West Africa (SFW) is engaged in various projects and initiatives aimed at transitioning to sustainable crop production systems, enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting integrated pest management, and improving resilience to climate change, among other objectives.

Job Overview:
The Project Management Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of projects, programs, and initiatives within the SFW Agricultural Unit. This position requires ensuring compliance with FAO rules and donor requirements, facilitating budget and workplan monitoring, and coordinating with technical officers and country offices. The specialist will also provide support in procurement, recruitment, and administrative processes to ensure timely and effective project delivery. The role is essential for maintaining the integrity of project management and ensuring that all activities align with the strategic goals of the FAO.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Management Specialist include leading the day-to-day implementation of the assigned projects portfolio, ensuring the preparation, monitoring, and updating of project plans with a focus on budget management and adherence to work plans. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining the Logical Framework Matrix (LFM), ensuring it is complete and up-to-date, and collecting relevant data for regular monitoring of project results. The role also involves liaising with stakeholders to maintain positive working relationships, providing reports to governance mechanisms, and identifying, mitigating, and managing potential risks. The specialist will ensure effective communication and visibility in line with project plans, prepare and submit reports, and ensure that all deliverables are completed, project documentation is organized, and preparations for project closure are established.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, social sciences, or another field related to the FAO mandate. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project management or operations support is required. A working knowledge (level C) of either French or English is also necessary for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, social sciences, or other areas that align with the FAO's mission. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of project management within the context of international food security and agricultural development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project management or operations support. Candidates with experience in managing projects through external partners and those familiar with modalities such as FAO’s Operational Partners Implementation Modality (OPIM) or the UN's Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfers (HACT) will be considered favorably. Experience at the international level in project implementation and managing operations is also desirable, as is work experience in multiple locations or areas of work.

Languages:
A working knowledge (level C) of either French or English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across different regions.
