Job Overview: The Internal Auditor position at EUROCONTROL is a critical role within the Office of the Director General, responsible for providing an impartial and independent appraisal and consultancy function for the Agency. The selected candidate will be expected to plan and perform internal audits related to various operations, systems, and processes, including financial management, program management, IT operations, and governance. The role involves conducting audit fieldwork, gathering and analyzing information, drafting comprehensive audit reports, and presenting findings and recommendations to management. The Internal Auditor will also be responsible for fostering effective professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations, and contributing to the development of the Internal Audit Work Programme and Annual Activity Report. This position requires a proactive approach to risk management and internal controls, ensuring compliance with professional standards set by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Internal Auditor include:
Planning and executing internal audits related to the Agency’s operations, systems, and processes.
Conducting audit fieldwork, gathering and analyzing relevant information.
Drafting well-structured and comprehensive audit reports that present findings and recommendations clearly.
Presenting audit findings and SMART recommendations to management persuasively.
Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with internal stakeholders (such as DG, staff, and management) and external stakeholders (e.g., Member States).
Monitoring the progress of previous audit recommendations to ensure their implementation.
Contributing to team activities, including the development of the annual Internal Audit Work Programme and the Internal Audit’s Annual Activity Report.
Ensuring compliance with professional standards set by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Engaging in advisory activities and participating in Agency Working Groups and meetings as required. 1
Carrying out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must fulfill one of the following requirements:
Completion of third-level studies in a relevant field, meeting EQF Level 7, followed by at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Completion of third-level studies in a relevant field, meeting EQF Level 6, followed by at least 6 years of relevant professional experience. Additionally, candidates must possess an internationally recognized professional qualification, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Information System Auditor (CISA). Experience with International Internal Auditing Standards and knowledge of data analytics and audit tools is essential. Familiarity with IT Auditing and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) is also required, along with knowledge of similar international organizations and ATM (Air Traffic Management) being an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Internal Auditor position includes completion of third-level studies in a relevant field, which must meet the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 6 or Level

Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes at least 5 years of relevant professional experience for candidates with EQF Level 7 qualifications, or at least 6 years for those with EQF Level 6 qualifications. Candidates should have substantial experience in internal auditing, risk management, and governance, as well as familiarity with international auditing standards and practices.
Languages: The working languages of EUROCONTROL are English and French. For this position, candidates must be proficient in English at level C1 and will be required to achieve a basic user level of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. This language requirement ensures effective communication within the multicultural environment of the Agency.
Additional Notes: The contract for the Internal Auditor position is for a duration of 5 years, with the possibility of extension or conversion into an undetermined contract. The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine months before being established in the post. The position operates under a hybrid working model, allowing for a combination of onsite presence and remote work, subject to specific limits and managerial approval.
