In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

The main roles of UN Women are:

> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview: The Programme and Finance Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the A.C.T programme (Advocacy, Coalition Building and Transformative Feminist Action to End Violence against Women) and the Africa Portfolio. This position involves ensuring that the development and implementation of these programs align with UN Women’s rules and regulations. The analyst will contribute to research, financial management, and program implementation, providing operational, administrative, and programmatic support. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including operations, program, and project staff in the East and Southern Africa Regional Office and UN Women HQ, to resolve complex finance-related issues and facilitate the exchange of information. The analyst will also assist in partner and stakeholder management, logistical support for events, and monitoring and reporting on partner agreements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme and Finance Analyst will undertake a variety of duties, including:
Managing logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for the ACT programme and Africa Portfolio.
Assisting the Africa Programme Manager in coordinating meetings, dialogues, and advocacy spaces with civil society and women's rights networks.
Providing advanced administrative support in preparing the UN Trust Fund’s regional portfolio and ACT work plan, budget, and activities.
Compiling data and information for documents, guidelines, speeches, and position papers.
Supporting the coordination of calls for proposals and organizing technical review committees.
Assisting in mission planning, travel, HR, and procurement processes.
Contributing to the development of standard operating procedures and business processes.
Implementing financial strategies in compliance with UN Women’s regulations.
Monitoring grantees' financial and narrative reports and ensuring compliance with financial management practices. 1
Preparing for audits and implementing audit recommendations. 1
Reviewing financial transactions and ensuring proper functioning of financial management systems. 1
Supporting training sessions for partners on financial management and compliance. 1
Preparing and administering UNTF budgets in compliance with UN Women’s policies. 1
Monitoring and reconciling advances to grantees and reporting non-compliance. 1
Generating management reports and assisting in internal and external audits.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in business administration or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires strong administrative skills, knowledge of administrative rules and regulations, and proficiency in IT and web-based management systems. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle confidential work and manage a large volume of tasks effectively.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in business administration or related fields is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by additional qualifying experience.
Experience: At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in administration, procurement, HR, or logisticssupport services is required. Experience with office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is essential. Familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable. Experience in supporting civil society organizations, particularly women's rights organizations, is an asset. Additionally, experience in knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation, and organizing learning events is beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, while fluency in Kiswahili is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is also desirable.
