Job Overview:
The consultant will be engaged in the Data and Analytics Unit (DAU) of UN-Habitat, which specializes in the global monitoring of urban data and indicators. The primary expectation from this position is to successfully deliver updated frameworks for the Shanghai Adapted Index (SAI), comprehensive documentation of scenarios, evaluation of pilot city applications, and the generation of validated data points that align with the Urban Monitoring Framework (UMF) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The consultant will also be responsible for developing promotional materials and digital platforms related to SAI, contributing to an integrated SAI Application Report, and ensuring that all outputs meet the strategic priorities of UN-Habitat.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include:
  • Developing and updating the SAI indicator framework, ensuring it aligns with UMF and SDG standards.
  • Researching and documenting the viability of SAI application scenarios across various thematic areas.
  • Generating and validating data points related to urban services and infrastructure.
  • Supporting the evaluation of SAI implementations and preparing promotional materials.
  • Planning and contributing to SAI-related events and digital platform inputs.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including governments and civil societies, to enhance urban data collection and analysis.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as urban planning, statistics, or economics. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with two additional years of relevant experience will be accepted. A minimum of five years of experience in urban data research or analysis at various levels is required. Strong knowledge of urban indicator frameworks and measurement methodologies is highly desirable, indicating a need for candidates who are well-versed in the complexities of urban data.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in urban planning, statistics, demography, economics, or related fields. A Bachelor's degree is acceptable if accompanied by sufficient relevant experience, demonstrating the importance of both formal education and practical knowledge in urban studies.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of experience working as a researcher or analyst in urban data and human settlements. This experience should encompass local, national, and international levels, highlighting the need for a comprehensive understanding of urban issues and data analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this consultancy role. While not required, knowledge of any other UN language would be advantageous, reflecting the international nature of the work and the diverse stakeholders involved.
