Job Overview:
The Protection Officer will work under the technical supervision of the Protection Team Leader and with input from the Protection Manager. This role involves conducting ethical and safe interviews with community members, ensuring representation of diverse age, gender, and profiles each month. The officer will assist individuals at risk with referrals, both internal and external, in consultation with the referral focal point. The officer is expected to proactively inform the team leader and manager about emerging trends of violations observed in the community. Regular updates and briefings on protection case management information will be required. The officer will manage daily activities as a caseworker, including scheduling, caseload management, and adherence to DRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Collaboration with DRC’s protection sector and integration with economic recovery, humanitarian-development-peace (HDP), and emergency teams is essential, along with cooperation with local authorities and communities. The officer will also manage a number of routine and complex cases and support the team leader and manager with donor and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) reporting requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer's responsibilities include conducting Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) training in assigned Afghan communities, following the EORE Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in coordination with the EORE officer. The officer will maintain an operational work plan while delivering EORE, keeping records of daily, weekly, and monthly activities, and collecting pre-post forms as per guidelines and targets. Weekly and monthly progress reports will be submitted to the DDG site operation officer. Daily communication with the site operation office is required, along with close coordination with DRC Sur/EOD teams. The officer will ensure the condition and quantity of EORE training materials, check equipment and training materials for damages, and report any issues. Reporting newly discovered mine accidents and incidents to the DRC Regional Office is also part of the role. The officer will compile Explosive Ordnance (EO) reports during community visits, ensure good communication with local communities, and conduct community liaison before starting EORE activities. Impact monitoring will be carried out according to the plan, and EO victim information will be collected and reported to the EORE officer. The officer will brief visitors and supervisors in the field regarding EORE work and community information gathered, and carry out any other tasks assigned by the EORE Officer or RE Coordinator. Coordination with other EORE instructors in the field is also expected.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires at least 2 years of experience in Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and a good knowledge of liaison and communication. Experience in teaching is preferred, indicating that the candidate should possess strong communication skills and the ability to educate others effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have at least a high school education. Additional certifications or licenses related to EORE or humanitarian work would be advantageous but are not explicitly required.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE).
