Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Private Sector Development is designed to enhance the engagement of the private sector in climate action and the growth of the green economy in Africa. The volunteer will support various initiatives under the UNDP Africa Sustainable Finance Hub (ASFH), focusing on innovative financing mechanisms and private sector-led solutions. Key responsibilities include assisting in the Scoping Study and Private Sector Engagement & Fundraising Strategy for Inclusive E-Commerce in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as supporting projects aimed at leveraging agriculture and AI for sustainable agricultural and export development in South Africa. The role also involves contributing to the development of the Sustainable Digital Fund Mobilization Platform (SDFMP) and Agri-Fintech Acceleration (AFA) initiatives, which are crucial for promoting sustainable business models and expanding market access in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be tasked with several critical responsibilities, including:
Supporting the implementation of the Scoping Study and Private Sector Engagement and Fundraising Strategy for Inclusive E-Commerce in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Assisting in the execution of the Leveraging Agriculture and AI for Sustainable Agricultural and Export Development in South Africa.
Aiding Country Offices in replicating the sustainable digital fund mobilization platform (SDFMP) and Agri-Fintech acceleration (AFA) models.
Conducting research and preparing briefs on topics related to private sector development, engagement, and financing for green businesses.
Supporting the organization of outreach activities such as webinars, workshops, and public-private dialogues.
Reviewing Concept Notes, Project Documents, and other relevant materials in the fields of economic development and financing for the SDGs.
Assisting in the production and updating of strategic, financial, and administrative documents for the Private Sector Development, Engagement and Financing (PSDEF) Unit.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position should possess a strong understanding of private sector development and engagement, particularly in the context of sustainable finance and climate action. They should demonstrate analytical skills and the ability to conduct thorough research. Proficiency in preparing concise and informative briefs is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a collaborative mindset and be able to work effectively within a team, as well as independently when required. Familiarity with the UNDP's mission and objectives, particularly regarding sustainable development and poverty eradication, is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A background in economics, finance, international development, environmental studies, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should ideally hold at least a bachelor's degree, with advanced degrees being an advantage. Relevant coursework or training in sustainable development, private sector engagement, or climate finance would be beneficial.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have some experience in private sector development, sustainable finance, or related fields.
