Job Overview:
The Business Support Assistant (Digital Assistance, Data, and IT) plays a crucial role in supporting the effective delivery of food assistance programs in Karamoja, Uganda. This position is responsible for providing essential digital assistance support, managing data, and delivering foundational IT services. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth implementation and operation of digital assistance tools, data management systems, and IT infrastructure. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including staff, partners, and the communities served. The Business Support Assistant will also be involved in training staff and partners on digital platforms, ensuring they are equipped to utilize these tools effectively. The position demands a strong understanding of data management principles and the ability to analyze data to inform decision-making and program adjustments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Business Support Assistant include:
  • Digital Assistance Services: Assist in the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of digital assistance tools and applications used in food assistance programs. Provide training to staff and partners on the use of digital assistance platforms. Support staff, partners, and beneficiaries in accessing and utilizing digital assistance platforms.
  • Data Management and Analytics: Ensure the availability of digital tools for accurate and timely data collection related to food assistance programs. Conduct regular data quality checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency. Assist in analyzing program data and preparing reports to inform decision-making.
  • Foundational IT Services: Provide support for the installation and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including computers and network devices. Offer first-level technical support for IT issues faced by staff. Assist in software installation and updates. Maintain an inventory of IT assets and ensure proper usage. Monitor network systems for reliable connectivity. Implement security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols to protect IT infrastructure.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation of digital assistance and IT systems. Ensure adherence to WFP policies and compliance with data protection regulations. Perform any other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • Education: Completion of secondary school education is mandatory. A post-secondary certificate in a related functional area is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Digital Innovations, or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience in IT support, data management, or digital assistance roles is essential. Experience in a humanitarian or development context is highly desirable. Proven experience with IT infrastructure, digital tools, and data management systems is required.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Technical skills in using and supporting digital tools and applications. Strong understanding of data management principles. Familiarity with network systems and IT security protocols. Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills. Ability to analyze data and generate meaningful insights. Soft skills including strong communication, training abilities, and a commitment to high data quality standards.

Educational Background:
The educational background needed for this position includes a completion of secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area being required. A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Digital Innovations, or a related field is considered an added advantage, providing a strong foundation for the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for this position is at least 4 years in IT support, data management, or digital assistance roles. Candidates with experience in a humanitarian or development context will be preferred, as this background is highly desirable for understanding the unique challenges faced in these environments. Proven experience with IT infrastructure, digital tools, and data management systems is essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of local languages is considered an added advantage, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
