Job Overview:
The position of Intern - Data Analytics within UNICEF's Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) involves supporting the development of Business Intelligence dashboards and working with various data sources. The intern will be responsible for understanding and analyzing data, integrating it into the Business Intelligence platform, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the data. This role requires collaboration with different departments to understand data needs and assist in preparing analytical reports. The intern will also provide updates to the Data Analytics working group and prepare guidance notes for data compilation and extraction, contributing to the overall effectiveness of UNICEF's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of Business Intelligence dashboards for Internal Audit.
  • Work with multiple data sources to locate, access, understand, and analyze data.
  • Interpret various data sources and integrate them into the Business Intelligence platform.
  • Test data in the BI platform for accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in meetings with various departments to understand data needs and propose integration methods.
  • Prepare guidance notes for data compilation and extraction for Audit planning.
  • Assist in the preparation of analytical reports and related outputs as required.
  • Provide periodic updates to the Data Analytics working group.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a university or an advanced degree program, or graduation within the past two years.
  • Advanced coursework and/or certification in MS Excel or Data Analytics is highly desirable.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including managing workbook options, formatting data, creating advanced formulas and macros, and managing advanced charts and tables.
  • Working knowledge of PowerBi or similar Business Intelligence tools is an advantage.
  • Coursework and/or experience in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or have graduated within the last two years. Advanced coursework in data analytics or MS Excel is highly desirable, indicating a strong foundation in data management and analysis.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience with data analytics, preferably through coursework or internships. Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools and scripting languages is beneficial, but not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.

Additional Notes:
The internship is in-person in New York, with a tentative start date of December 1, 2025, and a duration of 6 months. The position is paid (stipend). Candidates must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting the internship.
