Job Overview:
The Protection Officer (Social Worker) plays a crucial role under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, focusing on delivering high-quality protection case management services. This position involves working within DRC Community Centers and potentially other locations as required. The officer is responsible for conducting protection assessments, developing case plans, mapping available services, and making internal and external referrals to relevant services. Additionally, the Protection Officer will oversee the delivery of Cash for Protection and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA). The role requires providing technical support on complex cases and ensuring that all tasks align with agreed work plans, thereby contributing to the overall effectiveness of the protection team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer's duties encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing case management services in accordance with DRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and international guidelines, which includes assessing protection risks, developing and implementing case plans, and ensuring proper follow-up and case closure.
  • Referring cases to both internal and external services based on identified needs and obtaining consent, while adhering to the Protection Sector Minimum Standards on Referrals.
  • Collaborating with the Protection Team Leader and other organizations to facilitate smooth referrals and monitor follow-up actions.
  • Offering Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals in distress and conducting awareness sessions for at-risk individuals and their families.
  • Supporting the Protection Team Leader in conducting weekly supervision meetings with the case management team to ensure adherence to care standards and quality service delivery.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential case files, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and archived appropriately.
  • Identifying needs for case management materials and coordinating with the team leader for procurement.
  • Acting as the focal point for case management within the protection team, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
  • Identifying cases eligible for cash assistance and managing the related documentation and follow-up processes. 1
  • Producing and submitting regular reports and updates to the Protection Team Leader, ensuring compliance with data protection protocols. 1
  • Collaborating with other sectors and NGOs to ensure a coordinated response to service provision and advocating for the needs of vulnerable individuals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of experience in providing case management services, with at least one year in a supervisory role. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide technical support, training, and supervision to assistants, while maintaining confidentiality and respect for clients. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential for effective representation and liaison with external parties. The candidate should also exhibit excellent organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and the capacity to work independently under pressure. Flexibility in working hours and a commitment to humanitarian principles are also required.

Educational Background:
The essential educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field. In cases where candidates have substantial field experience, this may be accepted in lieu of formal educational qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of relevant experience in case management services, with a minimum of one year in a supervisory capacity. Candidates should have a proven track record of providing technical support and training to staff, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize client safety.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Proficiency in English at an advanced level is also required, particularly in reading and writing, to ensure effective communication and documentation.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is set to last until December 31, 2026, and it falls within the Management (H2) band. The role reports directly to the Protection Manager and is based in Turbah. The salary and conditions will align with the Danish Refugee Council’s National Terms of Employment.
