In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

> International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW)
> Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)
> United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
The main roles of UN Women are:
> To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women involves providing reliable and safe driving services to the UN Women Representative, other UN officials, and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Reporting to the Country Programme Manager, the Driver may also be required to provide driving services to operations and program staff, consultants, experts, and UN staff on mission. Additionally, the Driver will assist with basic administrative clerical and security support for the UN Women Somalia Office, ensuring that all driving and vehicle management tasks are performed efficiently and in compliance with UN Women policies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's primary responsibilities include providing reliable and secure driving services for the transport of authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport. The Driver must ensure that all passengers wear seatbelts and take immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents. The Driver is responsible for maintaining daily vehicle logs, ensuring the vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition, and performing minor repairs. The Driver must also maintain all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, assist with general administrative and logistic support, and monitor organizational security compliance. This includes maintaining security-related contact lists, updating security equipment inventory, and supporting the preparation of security communications and training. The Driver may also assist in managing daily logistical issues related to staff transport services and provide administrative support for assessing the security situation in the host country.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a valid driver's license. A minimum of three years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is required. Experience as a trained armored vehicle driver and having an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) qualification is desirable. Security experience is also preferable. The candidate must demonstrate excellent driving skills, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs. A strong sense of responsibility and punctuality is essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. Candidates must also hold a valid driver's license, which is essential for performing the driving duties associated with this role.
Experience: The position requires at least three years of relevant experience as a driver, particularly in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system. A proven safe driving record is crucial, and experience as a trained armored vehicle driver is highly desirable. Candidates with security experience will have an advantage in the selection process.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the working language of UN Women. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered desirable, which may enhance communication and collaboration within the organization and with various stakeholders.
